born July 2004

Shadow was 5 months old and comes to us with quite a story.  She's been through a lot for such a young kitty!  We tried very hard to get Shadow's face, but had a little trouble...  we did take several pictures of her though.  She really seems to be a ham when the camera comes out  LOL

Now Shadow is quite the little miracle kitty.  She was originally at the pound, and was adopted, only to be brought back.  Seems poor little Shadow had a serious medical problem.  The pound decided that she needed to be euthanized.  Well, somehow, she ended up back on the adoption floor at the pound.  Amazing that she escaped euthanasia!  Anyways, someone else had decided to adopt her.  When she was entered into the computer at the pound, they told the people they couldn't adopt her because she was scheduled for euthanasia due to a medical problem.  So, back to the euthanasia area she went again.  Would you believe that she managed to escape this horrible thing yet again?!  Amazing huh?!  It just so happened that one of the ladies that worked at the pound called the Atascadero Humane Society and told them of this poor little kitties plight.  The Humane Society decided to take her in and immediately called a vet from up north somewhere.  The vet came down and checked her out, and performed a surgery called Recto-Vaginal Fistula to fix this problem she had.

Now why couldn't the pound do this?  Sheesh!  Their excuse was it was too expensive of a surgery and it was just easier and cheaper to euthanize her.  How mean!  Makes ya wonder if they'd do that to their children too...  they get a medical ailment that needs a pricey surgery and just do away with them.  That is just so WRONG!  She wasn't in pain from this problem, it was just that every time she'd urinate, she would also defecate at the same time.  The Humane Society had the surgery performed on Oct 20th, 2004.  She was just about 3 1/2 months old at the time.  Poor little thing.  Well, here's Shadow's pictures, our little miracle kitty!

If you click on the pictures, you can see the full size ones  :)

Just as with children, it's important to keep good records of your kitties health as well.  It certainly comes in handy, so that you know EXACTLY when their boosters are due.  Contrary to popular belief, kitties need to get boosters too, not just dogs. Amazing how many folks don't realize that kitties need shots too.  Shots are not just a dog thing, and they are just as important for kitties as they are dogs.

Along with Shadow's shot records below, we will also be listing all her vet visits too. At least this way if we should misplace the papers, we'll have it all here too, and could easily print it out to take with us to the vet. :)
